My Top 5 Nutrition Essentials

1. Grass-fed Collagen: I use this EVERYDAY, no questions asked. I have found that my hair, skin and nails are better and I never get bloated from it. I have had a hard time finding a protein powder that I do not get inflamed from (and I have tried a lot), and this has saved me. I have been using it everyday for the last 2 years and I do not plan on stopping. I like to use Canadian brands like Sproos and Genuine Health.

2. Digestive Enzymes: These have been a life saver for me over the years. I try not to take them all the time, but when I am getting some bloating or brain fog, I use enzymes for a few days to get back on track. You can feel the effects immediately which is how I know they're working.

3. Lions Mane Mushroom: This is something I have been more into recently, but I have really started to notice the effects and dived deep into the research. Lions mane is a white mushroom that grows in BC and it can literally help your brain create new neural connections. It is a fungus that has the majority of research in concussion and Alzheimers studies and are having great effects. This is a mushroom I will take until the day I die (with a stellar memory).

4. Root Vegetables: I am a HUGE fan of root vegetables for many reasons. One, they offer a great source of fibre to feed the microbiome. Second, they contains carbohydrates in a much more beneficial form than processed grains and flours. Third, they are very grounding to eat and nourishing for the body. Forth, these veggies are PACKED with vitamins and minerals and medicinal properties (ie allicin in garlic as an anti-microbial). Lastly, they keep in cold storage for months at a time so you can always have them on hand and cook with them often.

5. Herbals: These can be in many forms. I grow many of my own culinary herbs and medicinal herbs that I cook with fresh, or dry for teas. I think we have overlooked so many herbs that have become commercialized, like basil and chamomile. But herbs are some of the most powerful plants on the planet with major healing properties. When used at proper dose and with a good organic herb, you can feel so many health benefits. These can range from relaxation, stress-relief, antioxidant properties, anti-microbial properties and increases in energy. Don't forget about herbs the next time you are cooking or making tea.
